HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING,
The usual monthly meeting of the High Suliool Board of Govor ora was held lust evening. Present—Messrs Uolliugwood (chairman), G Ilirsoh, T. R. tfoilder, Baruicoat, W. Stubbs, W. Park, and Arohdeacoa Harp&r. REPORTi-l. RECTORS' REPORT. The Rector reported that the school had beon open 38 Imlf-days, ami closed one half-day. The roll stands at 188, boys 117, girls 71. This is a reoord for the school, The altarafcions aud improvements were noraplote and all the new desks had been received, The n<uv science rooiu for boys was proving very oouvpuient, The oil conking room was now beiug used lor muwing classes aa well as oookiutf. Ir. will be later uaei] for the .girl's Miii Mice, The Government will provide necessary aparatus. Tim boys from the girl's classes in Form 111, mid IV. have been separated. The InspectorGeneral's suggestion that all the girls shall tak? as their soieuce physiology, health, first aid has been carried out. The juuiors also take cooking. - Adopted.
TECHNICAL SCHOOL DIRECTOR The D rector of the Technical School ropmtedAttendances at the Technical School having rapidly in(■reused iu numbers, aud the session proiinsoß to eclipse all former ones. In the seoond week of eurolmonfc the weekly enrollments now total 680, an increase of 80 over last year (best term). Au instructor is required for the motor car eugiueering olass, but this position will, it is hoped, be filled by next week. The shorthand and bookkeeping classes have been divided into two seotions and the English and arithmetic classes into three divisions owiug to increasing numbers. The new agricultural olaBS for farmers' sons has started with a 101 l of seven,-Adopted. FINANCE. COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee reports that at a meeting held on February Bth the committee's duties subjeot to the Boaul's approval, were denned as follows To draw up an annual estimate of receipts and expenditure for adop. tion by the Board at the commencement of the financial year. To peruse the outward and inward correspondence and eliminate all purely office letters .whioh require no oonsideiation. To report on the state of the finances when required by the Board and to oonsider all matters of fluanoe referred to it by the Board. To examine and recommend the ftooouuts for payment before being presented to the Board. To instruct the secretary to pay all fixed sums already apporved by the Board when due date arrives. GROUND COMMITTEE. The Ground Committee reported that the grounds are iu good order. The Committee has had under consideration the important matter of placing the boys' ground in playable order, but before reporting definitely they wish to engage further expert advice. The Committee points out that should the stock auctioneers go on at once with the formation of the proposed roadiug and yards between Featherston street and Grey street, the native reserve in front of the school will uot again be available for football during tho coming year.
