A mjeting of the subscribers to the Tfngey presentation fnnd will be held on Thursday afternoon, Ex-Snperiutendent Tingey leaves shortly for an extended trip to the Old World.
The Fire Brigade deßires to acknowledge a donation of £5 5s from Messrs Waldegrave Bros, in recognition of services rendered at the recent fires in the Square. At the inquest on the .body of Wil'Ham E. V. Havilana yesterday, snbInspector O'Donovan thanked a witness, Henry Reynold Miller, for the assistance he rendered in recovering the body. He had cheerfolly and voluntarily waded into mid-stream and performed the disagreeable task of removing the body from its position, and towed it aoross to dry land.. At the annual meeting of the Manawatu Kugby Union last night a 'hearty vote of thanks was aooorded to Mr A. N. Gibbons for his services as President in the past. Mr Muller, who moved the motion, rofeired to tlie splendid work done by Mr Gibbons for football in the Manawatu district during the seven years he had been a member of the Union. Mr Pirani also spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Gibbon's services. Mr Gibbons, who had previously been elected Patron.of the Union, said he would not fail to do his duty as 'a follower of the game should oooasion arise.
