LEVIN NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent. The following have been nominated by the tomperatice party for the Otaki Licensing Committee Messrs J. G. Barolay, Shannon; Byron P. Blown, Otaki; J. W. Gibson and Ivor JamGS, Levin; James Pearce, Pahautanui. These gentlemen have no wish to hamper publicans, but they are desirous of seeing that hotels are conducted acoording to law.

Mr George Fair, of Levin, waa married ou Wednesday to Miss A, Gunn, daughter of Mrs Wilkie, Queen street. Both parties are well known in the town, and were the reoipientb of nnmerons presents and good wishes. Rev. J. White officiated.

1 Ad. interesting shooting match is expected to take place at the Levin range on Saturday next, the contestants being a team of oivilians got together by Mr James MoLeavey, ohairraan of the Horowhenua Oonnty Oouuoil, auifmembers of.the Rifle Olub, The following are expected to comprise the civilian's team:Messrs J. MoLoavey, J. Prouse, R. Pronso,' J. Robertson, R, Pettitt, W. Eggleton, H. Gilmour, Young, Ranger, and another; while the Rifle Olnb will rely on Riflomen J. Devine, J. Muir, J. Rutherford, H. Wood, H. Ward, P. Jones, D. Musgrofe, W. Franois, junr., 0. Inrgam, L. Ingram. The Levin Boating Olnb gave a free outing to the ladies and children of the town on Wednesday afternoon at the lake. A large crowd assembled and the membeis of the olub gave the children a trip in the olub's boats, while Mr W. B. Molntosh's sailing boat was placed at the disposal of the ladies. Afternoon tea was served out by a corps of ladies who saw that everyone was supplied. M.r Kevin's boats were hired out to private parties. About half-past six all left for home after a most enjoyable outiug, The leaderette in Wednesday's "Manawatu Times" on "Rye v, Maoadan}"' has caused some talk iu the town, and one councillor remarked chat it hit off the situation very neatly. A well-known tradesman informed your correspondent that if that was all the Oounoil oonld And to do it was time we had a new lot of men, who would be able to employ their time to better advantage. ' Apropos of the coming Borough Oounoil eleotion, eleotors areoasting about, to got men to come forward, and if tlie man'in the street is to be credited, there will be a good . proportion of fresh faces to be seen at the Oounoil board after April.
