LEVIN-MARTON RAILWAY.

A CONFERENCE AT FOXTON.

At a meeting of Marton Ohambor of Commerce on Tuesday evening a communication, was received from Foxton Chamber in connection with the Levin-Marton railway. They sent a letter from Mr Edward Newman, M.P., who suggested a conference at Foxton at 1.30 p.m. on March 9th. He also suggested that a trial survey should be expedited and the Premier motored oyer the route. The ohairman (Mr F. Purnell) said that if it was desired to press for the construction of this railway it would be neoessary to send four or five members to represent Marton Chamber to the conference. The Levin, Foxton ana Marton Ohambors were praotioally unanimous, and it was only a question of what steps, should betaken. ' It wbb pointed ont that a meeting was to be held at Bulls to consider the extension of the Sandon tramway to Bulls and Foilding. The Chamber resolved to heartily support the proposal for a conference and formed a committee to go to Foxton. At tne annual conference at Wellington next month it was deoided to propose for a disoussion shortening the railway journey from Wellington to Auckland by construction of Levin-Marton Railway.
