THE TAIHAPE FIRE.
ESTIMATED DAMAGE, £25;000. THE INSURANCES. (Press Association). Taihape, Last Night. No buildings beyond those enumerated yesterday were destroyed. Several premises on the opposite side of the street were scorched and windows were broken and stock was slightly damaged by water. All this damage is in small amounts. But for the absolute calm the whole town might have been destroyed. A large quantity of was salvaged. The loss over the' insurances is veiy heavy. The total damage is estimated at about £25,000.
The corrected insurances are:— Whaler Bros., £250 in the Australian Alliance; iMcPherson, £250 in the SunjNichol, £BOO in the British; Garner, £2OO in the Commercial Union; Whitcombe, £l5O in the Commercial Union; Finoh, £IOO in the Sun, £SO on personal effects in the New Zealand ; Hodgßon, £3OO in the Norwich Union; Aldridge, £SO in<?he Sun; Jones, £250 in the Sun; Misp Fraeer (tea roomB), £4O in the New Zealand; Wang You, £2ooin the Sun; Ellis and Daivill, unknown, probably Alliance and Queensland. Their Btook'was valued at £IO,OOO. The Labour De partruent is uninsured as far as can be ascertained. W. R. Emoreon, solicitor, had £SO in the New Zealand on the building. Ellis and Daryell had £B6O in the Allianoe. Mrs J. D. Barsley, on Whaler Bros. 1 , Niohol's, and MoPherson's buildings had £450 in the Sun. On Wang You's shop there was £IOO, and on W. P. Garner's £IOO in the Commercial Union. On E. Jones' there was £IOO in the Sun. E, Hedges had-on Finch's £6OO in the New Zealand. F. H. Gibbons had on Garner's £IOO in the Commeroial Union.
