The High Commissioner's cable under date London 12th December, 1908, is as follows There is no alteration in the mutton market since last week, and the lamb market is weak and dull of sale. All branches of Australian stock accumulating is quoted at 4>£d. There is no change in prices for New Zealand lamb; supplies of American chilled beef is small, and prices have declined. New Zealand hindquarters are quoted at forequarters The butter market is firm with an improved demand. Following are the current quotations: Choicest New Zealand, Ills; Australian, 107 d ; Danish, 1 IGa ; Argentine, of which supplies are increasing, IORs. The cheese market is quieter but steady. The "Turakina" shipment has arrived in good condition, the result of raising a de- ' gree of temporature in the cold storage from 45-50 to 55-60, being satisfactory, chceso being well matured and ready of sale. Now Zealand makes are quoted at aSs, Canadian 61s. Tho hemp market is very quiet and current quotations are as follows: Good fair grade on spot £','5 ; fair grade on spot £23; fair current Manila on spot £24 103; JanuaryMarch shipments, good fair grade, £24 10s; fair grade £22 10s. The last week's output from Manila amounted to 28,000 bslos. METAL, COPRA, SHARES AND HEMP. London, Ypsterday. Copper, spot £63 2s (id, three months £64 2s 6d ; tin, spot £131 10s, three months £133 7s 6d ; lead, imports 18,174 tons, inoluding 5326 tons of Australian exports 7491 tons; silver, 22; tinplates 12s and il3s 7>£d. Shares.—Waihi, buyers £8 13s 9d, sellers £8 16s 3d ; Waihi Grand Junction. buyers 255, sellers 27s 6d. Copra is active. South Sea bags, £18 2s Gd. Hemp is quiet. October-December shipment, £25. WOOL. The average for merinos is 5 per cent, above the October sales. American sorts are 10 per cent, higher. Good scoured shows a 5 to per cent, advance, faulties 10 per cent, advance, fine good medium crossbreds 15 to 20 per cent., slipe3, keen demand, 10 per cent. During the sales 67,500 bales were sold for the Home market, 85,000 bales for tho Continent, 15,000 for America, and 10,000 were held over. The sale included : Mataura 9^ u 'd, Oliaka lSJg'd. HIDES. T" J Hides are in fair demand, and advanced about a farthing. Leather: Basils are steady, and prices unchanged. FROZEN MEAT. Mutton.—Canterbury, heavy, 3 9-16 d, North Island best brands 3%d, other sorts and lambs and beef are unchanged. River Plate sheep, heavy 3 3-1 Gd, light 3 5-16 d, beef unchanged.
