. *&> ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast Caledonian Society was held last niglit, Mr F. S. Mcßae, president, presiding. There was a fair attendance of meinbors. TJie anuual report and balance sheet were adopted, the latter showing a credit balance of £12 17s Bd. The total receipts wero £242 14s 4d, and the expenditure included £10!) 11s foi prize money. The assets total £43 os Bcl, and the liabilities nil. PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS. In moving the adoption of the report and balance slieec, the President said that though the profit for the year was not very great the Society was in a plightly better position. What thej required most was an increased membership. The concert held recently had been a distinct success, and great credit was due to Mr T. Paterson Henderson foi the admirable way he had organised the affair. ■ a Mr Balsillie moved that the date of the annual sports gathering be altered. He said that the people ot the district were not supporting the Society, as they should do. In looknig for the reason for this lie had concluded that Easter Monday was too late in the season, also unmbers of people wont away for the Easter holidays. There were only about ten of a committee, though they had done well up to now, and if a bad Jay was struok they would find the membership was insufficient to meet 3uch a reverse. Home day in January or February would be better and
the opinion of athletes should be obtained as to the advisability of holding the meeting on the same day as Wanganui, namely Anniversary Day. Mr Graham seconded the motion pro forma. Mr Young said that considering the youth of the Society it had been met with considerable success. If the members got to work to bring in new members the effect would be much better than any alteration of the date. The President thought that an alteration yras unnecessary, and agreed with Mr Youug that an increase in the membership was more to bo desired. Mr Graham advocated a systematic canvass for members. Mr Balsillie said that he would withdraw his motion, and felt that the discussion would do good. ELECTION OP OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, M; -P. A.
