Nothing lias been done in the matter of the acquisition of the Wellington and Manawatu Company's railway line by the Government, except that formal notice lias hneu given to the Cornp-auy that on December 7th the State will exercise its power to take over the line. It is rumoured that the Company will adopt a strictly negative attitude. There is a possibility that legislation will be brought forward during the coming session by which the transfer will take place on December 7th, leaving the question of compensation ro be settled afterwards.
