ESTABLISHED 1875. Manawatu Daily Times. The Oldest Manawatu Journal. Conducted by E. D. HOBEN, Editor & Proprietor. Published Every Morning. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1908. DAIRY SCHOOL SITE.

Br his visit to Feilding yesterday, and to Hawera to-day, the Minister for Agriculture will have completed his inspection of the suggested dairy school sites. He will then immediately prepare his report upon them, and we may expect to know, in a very brief time, what the decision is. At this stage there is no profit in going over the merits of the various sites. Our viesv in connection with them is well-known. To our mind it is necessary that the site for the school should be central, easily accessible to as many districts as possible, and also, if possible, bo in a position to which farmers are automatically brought in large numbers. Taking thesejjonsideratious as esseu-

Hnl, tin SlnwgronnJ sito lias no rival. The Feiidihg Bite; which Mr Me-'..ib visited yesterday, id admirable. It is true, as pointed out by numbers of fcho deputation, that Feildiug is the contra of a great dairying district, with a future transcending its past, but as Mr Atkinson admitted, in addressing the Minister, it becomes a totally diffprent thing if the relation of the site to the districts south of Palmerston, and to the Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa districts to the east, as well as the districts to the north are to be considered. Then, of course, thero is only one site. The Manawatu Showground site, again, has this advantage, in that it is absolutely neutral. It does not belong to Palmerston expressly, but to all the West Coast, and its membership embraces all In fact, it is quite possible for farmers to visit ic without seeing the town proper, and yet it is virtually alongside the railway station. Again, there is no place in the Dominion to which so many farmers are automatically brought year as to the Showground. While, therefore, we have every sympathy with our Peilding friends, and the greatest admiration for the generosity of Mr Lethbridge, we feel ourselves little doubt as to what should be the final outcome.
