UNIVERSITY BEQUEST.

Press Association. Wellington, January 80. The University Senate to-day discussed the bequest by the late Daniel o'Sullivan, of Pleasant Point, for the purpose of founding a _ scholarship or scholarships for medical students of the Roman Catholio faith. The Chancellor considered that the bequest should be handed over to the Public Trustee and so maintain the purely secular character of the University. Other members failed to see that the acceptance of a bequest reserved for members of a certain church would in any way impose religious tests. Eventually the Senate by 14 votes to 6 decided to accept the trust.
