FARMERS AND SHEARERS.

THE CONFERENCE SET FOR TUESDAY. THE DELEGATES. The sub-committee of the Farmers' Union Executive, and the outside sheepowners' representatives, who constitute it a comtnittee of defence on the shearing question, met at the Farmers' Union rooms, Cuba street, yesterday, the president, Mr J. G. Wilson, in the chair. The meeting lasted all day, and went at length into the replies to the circulars received from the various branches, and the points to be considered in the conference with the shearers. Finally an agreement was come to and the following delegates were appointed to meet the shearers in conference: —J. 0. Cooper, Pahiatua; "W. F. Jacob, Kiwitea; S. E. Wright, Hawke's Bay; Ewen Campbell, Wanganui; H. A. Nevins, Te Nui; J. W. Marshall, Marton; H. M. Saunders, Takapau; E. H. Crabb, Kimbolton: J. Clarke, Hawke's Bay. It was originally understood that' the conference should bo held today, but Mr Wilson did not care to consent to this without the executive having had its say upon it. Consequently the date was lei t to the meeting and it decided on Saturday. When, later, the secretary of ; the Shearers' Union, Mr E. Wilmott ; Abbott, called upon the Farmers' secretary, Mr W. Hunter, he pointed ■ out that he would not have time to get some of his delegates. It was accordingly arranged that the confer- ■ ence should take place on Tuesday J next. The shearers' delegates selected are as follow James Russell j (president), Ohingaiti; Thos. Hall, Hunterville ; Edward McCormick, Wanganui; S.am Young, Lower Rangitikei; W. L. Carrick, Masterton; ' John Baker, Puketapu, H.B;Bert Fell, Martinborongh; A. 0. Abbott, Featlierstone; John Timmins, Man- 1 gamahu; E W Abbott (secretary), 1 Hunterville.
