HOSPITAL BOARD.

The newly-elected Palmerstoa. North Hospital and Charitable Aid. Board held its first meeting yesterday, when there were present— Messrs J. G. Wilson (chairman), Bryant. Vincent, Fowler, Haydon, Yoss, Essex, Fitzherbert and Kendall.

ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN, Mr J. G. Wilson was unanimously re-elected as chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Wilson thanked his. fellow-members for the honor the 7 had done him by re-electing him as their chairman, a position which he had held for a number of years. Tli© coming year was likely to be. a busy one for the Board, and he was therefore pleased that his re-olection would enable him to carry on the work which was so much needed and in which he took a great interest. CORRESPONDENCE. From various Councils, giving results of the elections. From the Treasury, stating that two subsidies for £124 10s and £581 0s 8d had baeu remitted to the Board. FINANCE. A summary of the financial position of the Board for the past eight months was read and gave general satisfaction, the expenditure in som& tilings being a little larger and in. others less. It was shown that the. hospital expenditure had increased by £3541 0s 9d. This less the amount; chargeable to the Infectious Diseases Hospital, £150, leaves a net increase over the amount provided on the estimates of £204 10s 9d. The principal increase took place; in the salaries, provisions and fighting, and the larg3st decrease in the amount for repairs to building and maintenance of ground. The hospital account showed a debit balance of £650 7s Bd, infectious diseases hospital building aocount a credit balance of £61 Ids lOd; infectious diseases hospital maintenance account cr. balance £110 4s; Charitable Aid. account or. balance £546 3s lOd; contractors deposit account £88. The estimated receipts for th» various accounts till March 81st 1908 are as follows Hospital account, patients' payments £160; local bodies contributions, Palmerstoa North £186 14s Id; Manawatu County' Council £173 12s 7d; Pohangina County Council £94 8s 8d; Government subsidy £1173 18s 9; total £1770 14s Id. Estimated expenditure £1300 plus debit balance £650 7s 3d ; total £1950 7s 3d. Estimated deficiency till March 81st 1908, £719 18a 2d.

Charitable Aid account cr. balance £546 3s 10; estimated receipts £25; total £57 8s lOd less expenditure £350; estimated surplus £22 8s lOd.

Infectious diseases hospital maintenance account cr. balance £110 4s; patients' payments estimated to March 81st £40; total £150 4s, less cost of maintenance £100; estimated ' surplus £50 4s.

GENERAL. Mr Haydon was appointed treasurer.

Mr Fitzherbert moved, That in fattire the meetings be held at 3.45 in the afternoon. Seconded by Mr Fowler and carried.

It was proposed by Mr Vincent that Messrs Wilson,' Essex, Luxford; Bryant, Haydon, and Rutherford (secretary) be appointed an executive committee, three to form & quorum, with power to carry out necessary works and expend sums required not exceeding £10.—Carried.

On the motion of Mr Vincent, it was decided that the executive committee be empowered to call tenders for supplies during the year 1908.
