LIONEL TERRY.
DH. TROBT KING'S OPINION.;
Lionel Terry is enjoying himself in Central Otago. He rested with a sheep farmer for two days, and played draughts with him most of the time. Dr. Truby King, in a letter to the Otago Daily Times, says that Terry has unfortunately placed himself in a position whiclv causes people to pity him, and though it does not entitle them fro do so, to speak, write, and act fas though Terry had neither understanding, feeling, nor sensibility. The fact that a man of strong convictions and intense earnestness of purpose had felt impelled to act, and had acted, in a way which gained him an entry to the hospital for mental diseases, affords no excuse for insulting public references, which can do nothing but harm: it is not reassuring to lonely women in the back country to read alarming and suggestive articles, representing Terry as a particularly dangerous type of criminal, when he is in reality a singularly kind and conrteous gentleman, who would never dream of molesting or harming tliem in any way.
