OFFICIALS AND INCOME TAX

In the cases involving the liability of Commonwealth officials to pay income tax, the Privy Council was petitionee! direct by Victoria and New South Wales for leava to appeal against the decision of the High Court wiiich held that federal officers' salaries were not liable to taxation by the States. The Judicial Committee refused leave to appeal without calling on counsel for the Commonwealth. No order was made as to costs. Their Lordships will give reasons later.
