RAILWAY SOCIAL.
Palmerston railway cricket team and their invited guests; which included representatives of Terrace End, Albion and Woodville teams, assembled in full force last evening at the Masonic Hotel to celebrate the winding up of the cricket season. His Worship the Mayor (Mr B. Essex), presided ; Mr W. T. Wood, M.H.8., also being in attendance. Two very interesting addresses were given by these gentlemen, which were greatly appreciated. It maybe mentioned that the team has some good cricket material, but owing to the almost incessant duties of the railway employee it is at all times difficult to get to practice, and still more difficult to arrange matches, still it is with pleasure that we reoord seven wins for the season out of eight matches played, An excellent spread was provided by the host, Mr Mulrooney, to which the guests did full justice, and even the alarming notes of the firebell did not suffice to disorganise the gathering. Several toasts were duly submitted and drunk in a most enthusiastic manner. Amongst the most popular were those of " Our Member," "The Mayor " and " Host." An enjoyable programme as follows was rendered.—Song, Mr J. Hanley, '• Davy Jones' Locker "; comic song, Mr Crabtree, " I'll Like to be a Cricketer " ; song, Mr Melville, " Out on the Deep "; comic song, Mr Better, " I Made It" ; song, Mr Stratton, "The Sleeping Camp"; comic song, Mr Stewart; song, Mr Bobson ; song, Mr Edge," St. Patrick's Day."
