FAT STOCK MARKETS.

The Palmerston branoh of the Farmers' Union held a special meeting yesterday, when Mr Balsilliepresided, r ' The Fat Stock Markets Subcommittee reported in connection with the interviews which they had bad with the, auctioneers on the aubjeot of theestablishment of fat stock markets in Palmereton. One of the largest freezing oompanies had promised support to> the movement. Mr Abraham had advised them to send • a deputation to thel Export Company to talk over the matter. The Banks Company would also lend their support to the scheme. Mr Abraham had also said thatvin bin opinion 25,000 would be sum%nt to> enable the proposal to be carried out. The committee, however, recommended that a guarantee of 50,000 should be> adhered to.

It was pointed out that .if it was> thought desirable cattle sales should also be included in the project. Attention was also drawn to the fact that b'utober* could not be expected to attend the sale* if the market was solely for sheep. Is was decided that cattle be included in the project.

Attention was aleo drawn, per medium of a desultory discussion, that only fat stock would be offered and that therefore farmers would not bo able to send stock otherwise than fats to the sale in order to save the 1 per cent, commission.

The committee submitted for inspect tion a guarantee form which had beer* drawn up. The form was to the effect that the farmer would guarantee to Bell* through the Fat Stock Market, for six months his fat Btock for sale. The scale of charges, with an undertaking by auctioneers to adhere to it, was also. included. Other dotails, which have already been published, followed and the document was signed by the auctioneers, Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., and the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile! Agency Company, Ltd".

The meeting resolved that the sec*rtary be instructed to Bend copies of lac» form to the secretaries of the vamuibranches, and that he should also revest • the formation of sub-committees *(•> set' that they are filled in.

Mr 11. 8. Abraham said that be wacglad that cattle had been included in the> i-chemo. Unless a farmer specially de. sired a man to be sent out to grade hw cattle, the grading would probably be. done in the yards. It was all important that the sheep people should support the; movement, otherwise it would be na use cattle being sent in.
