Ladies' Hockey Notes.

(By "Ash."), I* will scarcely be necessary for the Manawata hockey girlis to invoke the •id of a trusty warrior to clear the way for their hockey sticks in the same manner as their Wellington Bisters invoked the aid of a certain " gallant woll known hereabouts. Judging by the respectful—not to say devout— interest taken in last week's games by male wielders of the hookey stick, there is bat little likelihood that there will be any such requirements in this district. Some of the games were very well worth watching, notably that between the Craven A and Kia Ora team?. The ■chool girls throughout gave an interesting display of combination and of clover passing. Their backs were soundrone or two of their number being particularly •afo and their forwards were ever ready to make the most of any chance that happened along. Miss Bagnall at centre half and Miaa Fitzherbert, forward, were the shining'stars in their combination.

The Kia Ora girls played a plucky, game marked by much brilliant individual play. When they include a little more method in their tactic 3 and when their forwards learn to pas 3 more freely and to bit only when in the circle they will be a difficult team to beat, Both the Huaki and Kia Kaha teams have been hard at work for the last few days. Early morning practices are the order of the day and they are both putting in* deal of useful work. . A. proposal is afoot that a team of men garbed in skirts should try conclusions with a representative ladies hockey team at the coming Winter Show. This •cribe would rather fanoy the ohance of the ladies. ■--.-■ The Uuaki girls proved last Wednesday that they are a goal getting lot of no^mean; order. Their forwards wore hard at it all the time and what little the backs were called upon to do was done in a crisp, clean manner.
