The vanguard at Siujcn, half-way to Kaiping, is throwing up fortifications; the midway force from Siuyen is preig. ing forward to Liaoyang.
A large force has fortified Kwantien, where eighteen guns are mounted, and is also constructing fortifications at Sapinhai, twenty-five lnileß nortb-eait of Sa.nachi, menacing General Europatkin's rear and communications. '
There are indications besides, that thirteen 'divisions of tha first Jine of Japanese will be sent to Manchuria, and thirteen reserve brigades.
There is a consensus of opinion that - the next battle will be fought in the hilly region between Haioheng and Shimuehenjr, sonih of Niuchwang. Ti;o i,u«kiiS| at Samaehi, with nrtillerj, attacked the Japanese in tha vicinity of Ayang, and were-r«pulsad with ten Japanese casualties. :■'■ -
