MAORILAND v. BRITAIN.
Takinc/ a line from their performances in Australia, the British football combination seriously threatens the supremacy of the Maoriland Rugbyites. That being the case no effort and no expense should be spared at this end to prepare a team calculated to uphold put national banner. The Ilugby Union would do well to .assemble the New Zealand team in Wellington at an early date, and, after putting th v em jbhrough preliminary facings there, send them out into .either the Manawatu, Wairarapa, Wanganui or ga-wjke's Bay districts for practice against local combinations. These practice matches would be well patronised by the public, and ample money would be so derived to pay all expenses. This scheme might deprive some of. the provinces of the pick of their players in games with the Britishers, but agaiust such acombination any team of a provincial character would be beaten anyhow. The great thing is for Maoriland to win the test match of the tour.
