GERMAN POLITICS.
A Socialist Demagogue.
" Tapeworm " Crltioism
(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) Received December 15, 11.16 p.m.
Berlin, Yesterday. Herr Bebel, in the Reichstag, declared that the Government's social programme was merely vague promises, and passionately declared that come what may the future rests with the Socialists.
Count Bulow ridiculed Bebel's " tapeworm criticism " and " blue vapourings about the future," and condemned the Socialists' continuous barren criticism and incessant appeals to the lowest instincts of blind fanaticism and narrowminded dogmatism. If the social democracy triumphed it would soon be replaced by a military dictatorship. He did not think the Socialists would conquer if the middle class parties resolutely faced the danger. Referring to the Far East, he said they would not burn their fingers in the way of interference except to guard Germany's possessions.
