The gale has abated but the sea is still boisterous, and soaking rain has fallen excepting in the far west, where it was light. Over the whole State for 48 hours ending this morning, 10 inches were registered. At Raymond Terrace Ik inches fell ; at Newcastlo 6| inches. The Maitland records and those of all the northern districts were very heavy. Tho low-lying lands along the Hunter and other rivers are under water, and a number of residents have been compelled to leave their houses.
