The lifeboat was unable to get close owing to a bar of sand, over which the vessel has apparently- been driven at high tide. She thus lies sheltered from the full force of the sea, with1 150 yards of comparatively still water between her and the. beach. . Some of the crew are ashore. The rest are in the forecastle! The latter signalled to the lifeboat not to attempt, to approach closer, which is interpreted that they mean to go ashore. A [blinding rain squall came down, hiding the vessel for a considerable time. When it cleared there were no signs of the crew on the vessel. It is believed they have gone ashore.
c From the position it is believed that there is no chance of salving the Oi_oia_u even if her bottom is not torn outi \
