Annual Horse Parade.
Some Splendid Stock.
There was a large attendance of the public at the Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon when the Society's annual horse parade was held. Ideal weather prevailed for the occasion, and the grounds looked very pretty with their blight covering of new spring green. There was a good general entry of all classes.of horses, and most of the stock shown- was in first-class condition, though one or two of the draught class looked as if they had been dressed at short notice.
The draughts in particular were a grand lot, showing plenty of quality and bone all through. There were led on parade by Messrs Nathan Bros,' grooms the grand pair Young Challenger and Hereward the Saxon, who are splendid types of the thorough draught, having size, substance, and rare bone and hair.
Another magnificent specimen, Messrs Russell, and Siddoll's Change of Style, a fine, massive horse with a perfect middle piece, also won great admiration. He is a beautiful, compact animal, with great substance.
Mr D. Buick's favourite stallion Odd Times was in rare condition. This horse shows grand bone and power, and is hard to find fault with. Rob Roy 11., Inzievar, Federation, and Dignity, all good types, were also Bhown. •Mr T. Edlin's General Joubert, though rough in the coat, showed good bone and quality, and is a fine, evenmade young horse. ,'-; A stallion that commanded a great deal of notice was Mr T. Greenhow's Bolingbroke 11., who is a really grand type, full of points for breeders. Boro Drayman was also on the ground. He is a perfect model, with beautiful head, neck, and forearms, and faultless hair.
In the hackney class, Mr Alderson showed Cokers Emperor (imp), a horse that caught the eye at once by his beautiful compactness and blood-like carriage.
Messrs Ellis Bros, paraded their popular stallion Galantine, a hackney with lovely action and beautiful proportions. . The trotters were a fine class. Mr H. J. Woodfield's Bobevt W. was easily notiaeable for his blood-like conformation. He is an ideal trotter.
Kingston, one of Kentuckey's stock, showed grand action, and is a well shaped horse.
Mr J. Newton's Federation also had many admirers, being a wiry freemoving stamp that, should beget good stock.
The only pony shown was Mr W. A Donnell's Young King Cobb, who was much admired, and whose stock have done him credit. "
The thoroughbreds were a capital lot. Mr D. Buick's Papakura led the parade. He is an ideal racehorse with a perfect middle piece and splendid quarters. Mr W. F. Mcßeth's Handsome Jack —another St. Leger—is a handsome blood-like type with great quarters abd fine conformation all through. His stock all gallop and win. Enchanter, a commanding-looking son of Bundoora, was greatly admired for his beautiful sinewy proportions and game-looking head and neck. Others shown were First Blood, Capt. Webb, Sir Launcelot, Addington, and Nestor.
