A record shipment of dairy produce was made by the Papanui, which left for London yesterday. She took away 1113 tone of butter, valued at £116,865 ; and 275 tons of cheese, valued at £17,050. The total value of the butter and cheese on board was £133,915. GREYMOUTH, Friday. At an inquest to-day on the body of Thomas Wyatt, the evidence showed that he was drunk and had been seen coming out a ] üblichouse near the wharf shortly, before his death. The jury returned a verdict that he was drowned while apparently under the influence of liquor. Coroner Hawkins, in scathing ; terms, denounced the liquor traffic. He said it was directly responsible for this man's death, that reform necessary and that the Magistrate should alone constitute a Licensing Committee. A large number of men are to be put on next week connecting Grey- I mouth with the State coal mine. No tender was accepted for the. Town Hall last night, the price being over the estimate. The timber output last year was 24,000,000 feet, £60,000 being paid in wages, NAPIER, FrMey. . At the inquest on .John d'o'oiy. found dead in a cottage, the medical evidence attributed his death to fatty degeneration of the heart, accelerated by excessive drinking.
