Freemasons Communication. Pigeon Shooting. Postal Revenue. Roll of Nurses, Acclimatisation Conference.
Per Press Association. Wellington, Friday. _ The date of the Annual Communication of Freemasons to b9 held in Auckland has been fixed for May s<h. At the annual competition of the Wellington Gun Club the following divided the prize rriojey : —Aunandale, { Eilea, Rosengrave, Chevannes, Ballistite Dobson, Campbell. Kyle, Ssccombej Price Redwood, Mason, Cheeseman, Kelly, Woolven, Johnson, Earle, Stewart, Buck, Scott, Allan, Whatman, Dimmock, Sinamonds and Wilson. During the quarter ended December 31st, the amount of revenue of the Postal Department was £63,058 and of j the Telegraph Department £70290; total £133,345, against £123,732 in the corresponding period of 1901. To-night's Gazette contains the roll of nurses registered under the Act of last year. At the Acclimatisation Conference, A. H. Shury moved that the netting ot trout from the rivers and lake 3of New Zealand be absolutely prohibited; and -that strong representation be made to the Government on the question. There was a general concensus of opinion that the sale and export of trout would ruin the fishing in the colony. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr Begg moved that it be a recommendation to the societies, with a view, to coping with the destruction of small Birds, to introduce the owl, magpie, and jay, but this was negatived. It was resolved that the opening of the,. season for shooting native and imported game be uniform throughout the colony, viz., from May Ist to July 31st. By a large majority it was decided that the owners of land only be allowed to shoot free, and that the clause allowing a transfer to a deputy be expunged from the Act.
