Deputation to the Premier.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, "Wednesday. A deputation waited on the Premier to-night to Bgain complain of the man. nee in which tbe Defence Force Eiflo Association programme for the annual shooting contests had been drawn, up, and also of the quality of the weapons supplied. The deputation represented the rifle clubs of the district. It was pointed out that members of rifle clubs were debarred from competing in many events on the programm?. Out of the prize list of £992 the sum of £779 was reserved for volunteers. Mr Seddon, in reply, deprecated the beMef that the Defence Department wished to discourage rifle clubs. On the contrary, they desired to give them every reasonable encouragement. At tbo same time the Government regarded tbe volunteer movement as of paramourt importance. The so!e reason for the | Government taking over the Rifle Associations meetings was to encounge volunteering. He promised to cansidir certain details of the programme for tLe forthcoming meeting.
