The Lecture.
There was a large attendance at the Congregational Church last night when Mr Hunt delivered a lecture, in which he described the progress of the New Guinea natives " From darkness to dawn." Mr Hunt's story was one in which great Christian heroism and the true Apostolic spirit were shown by the earliest missionaries, the labours of men like Dr Lawes and the Jato Mr Chalmers stauding out with special prominence. The work accomplish*.d through tha medium of the Echools in latter years was also graphically described, and fully illustrated by means of a long series of lantern views which wore thrown upon the screen, Mr Hunt's narrative was a most interesting one, and at its con elusion ho was accorded ah«arty vote cl thanka on the motion cf the Rev Mr Baker. A collection was also taken up in aid of the London Missionary Society,
