GOLF.
The crack Victorian players up here for the championships, and good English and Scotch players who have been out here, recently commented on the excessive swing' of some prominent Sydney men, says "Foozler," in the Sydney Mail. They held that the best modern school does not swing behind the back to anything like the distance our men do. Some of our players almost drop the driver to the perpendicular behind their backs, whereas the contention is that it should not go much, if any, beyond the horizontal. Taylor, the ex-open champion, in a series of articles he is contributing to Golf Illustrated and the American magazinu Golfing refers to this very question. lie writes: - "My opinion is that the club should not be carried below the horizontal behind the neck. If it is the club goes beyond the control of the player, and an effort has to ba made to <jql it back, makiug a break in tho swing, which, of course, i 3 a i'arai thing. To have completo control of tl)6 > club is tho great advantage derived from the three-quarter swing—that is, one which does not go below the horizontal. It is astonishing how tho play oi golfers has been modified during tho past few years in respect of the swing, for not long ago it was considered chat to be a golfer you must have a full swing. What has led to tun change U that is has beon found that with the three-quarter swing the player can get the ball equally as far with a great deal "more accuracy. If tho full swing comes naturally, a oil he finds he has complete control of his1 club, by all liiGans lot him use H, but, Hpeakiao' generally, it would produce a- by tee" average if golf players Were taught not to attempt more thau a threequarter" swing. People who commence late in life should certainly oofc attempt a fuller swing than this,"
