fP«!Bs Association.—Copyright.)

Sydney, Auguffc 27.

Dotixih of the wreck of the barque A)j>:.l, at iv.ii'prisG - land, uhow that t!io vcoßisi drifted on to a reef during a hurricane. The crew, tea in number, effected a landing with much difficulty, only one boat being left. The Alexa then broke up.

Part of the crew reached New Caledonia in their own boat. The remainder found a boat which had di ifted ashore from a passing vessel and started for Noumea. After being nine days at sea, ; id suffering great hardships,, they were picked up by a steamer sent to search for them.

A strange feature of the affair is that the boat, after drafting some hundreds of miles, should have opportunely stranded on Surprise Island, and fallen into the hands of the castaways. The mate returned to the wreck to look after the interests of the ownerand the captain came to Sydney to report to the underwriters.
