PARLIAMENT

[By Telegraph.]

Wellington, August 27.

The resumption of the financial debate was made the first order of the flay for 2.30 to-morrow. Mr Field gave notice to ask the Government whether their attention has been drawn to the formation of an Australasian Chamber of "Commerce in London, and whether it is true, as reported, that the AgentGeneral of this colony is holding aloof from tbe organisation pending instructions fronrthe Government, and whether it is the intention of the Government to co-operate with the rest of Australia in his movement.

Sir Joseph Ward moved the adjournment of the House as a mark of respect to the memory of tbe late Hon. James Kerr. He paid a tribute to the character of the deceased legislator, and said it was owing to his knowledge as a pressman, and his experience on publio bodies, tbat he was in 1892 selected as one of the 12 new appoin tees to the Council. It had always been his aim to do his best for his fellow men, and it would be some consolation to the members of his family to know that he left beJ-irid him a quiet, dignified personality, which will be remembered by his colleagues.

Mr James Allen seconded the motion, saying the Council had Busttiined a severe loss in the death of the Hon J. Kerr.

Mr Fi_her said Mr Kerr had always been known as an upright, ihonest, sterling man.

The motion was carried unanimously in silence, and the House „jj-"j-'irned till 2.30 to-morrow.
