THE DUNGAN MEMORIAL
The stone recently erected in the Palmerston Cemetery to the memory of Mr John Boulger Dungan, a former proprietor of this journal is a very handsome one. It is of Sicilian marble, and is surmounted by a Greek cross bearing the letters " I.H.S.'' in its centre. On the front of the stone the following inscription has been engraved by the sculptor, Mr W. Helyer, of Wellington : — Of your Charity Pray for the soul of John B. Dungan, Proprietor of the Manawatu Times, Who was born at Dublin, 9th April 1838.. Died at Palmerston North, 2nd May, 1882, Aged 43 years. May his soul rest in peace This stone is erected by a few friends as a tribute of affection to his memory. We may mention than an excellent photograph of the stone has been taken by Mr G. W. Shailer, photographer, to the order of the committee of subscribers to the memorial.
