A CUNNING "SHAVER."
My friend Magginnis is a perfect Esau m the matter of the quantity and quality of his hirsute appendages, and consequently is just as watchful of the sacred inviolabity of his razor, as another would be of their tooth brush. A week or two since, however he was compelled to send it to the cutler, and after vainly endeavoring by sundry messengers to have the article returned, j. a d the individual a visit m person. Upon his entering the shop of the cutler, w.ho is also a professor of the tonsorial art, that gentleman had a subject under the lathering brush, and it struck the visitor that his appearance did not seem to inspire, the operator with confidence. On the contrary the nasal organ of the patient, which had then been artistically grasped between thumb and digit was dropped like, a Lot potafcoe, and that useful organ allowed, to retain ifcs elevated argle of about forty-five degrees at which it was poised, while the barber found necessity to interview the farthest and darkest corner of the room. On his return, he handed Maggipru\the missing razor, with a request for one shilling for improvements effected. With sundry &u.s,picions that all was not right. Mag paid the shilling, hurried home, and proceeded to enjoy an easy shave. The first pull of the razor brought tears to his eyes, the second, curses to his mouth; while tie. third, was the prelude to the instrument of torture, gyrating through space into the farthest corner of the room, and thp Qhairs to somersault against the opposite walk The faithless barber had not only never used the strop, but had worked the unfortunate razorjto death, and had then coolly charged a charged a shilling, for the trouble of doing so. A solemn oath was swor.iv by the deceived one, and honceforth Magginnis will be seen, " bearded like the pard."
