Letter from M:.\ Boyd staling that Section No. 134 Feilding, for which/he had been charged rates had not been his possession for|the last three years. He had searched the register and found that Mr; W. Muir,, of Wellington/was the owner. The clerk was instructed to see into the matter. „' 7.. /.BEEATMEIIT.V . •■, -7 Letter from the 'Manawatu Highways Board requesting payment of the sum of £ ' being half the. amount paid Mr. T/Fry f.r clearing, road line' which forms "the bmndary between the two districts — Resolved that the road line being put of the district t,he Board cannot comply with the request of the Manawatu Highway Board. ' V, SUBUBBAM" BOADS. Letter from/ Mr. J. B. Roots re subnrban road.— Resolved that the Board is unable -to depart from its former resolution. BUSH FALLING. Letter from Mr. J. C Shore asking permission to fall tue bush m front of Reid's Line at £2 per acre. — Resolved that the Board is unable at present to comply with Mr. Shere's request. PETITION, Petition from residents m Manchester '< street requesting that the said street be straightened and formed, and the dangerous parts fill* up 'for the convenience of tlie public. — Resolved that the Board is at present unable to comply with the request. NABBOW-WHEBLED DRAYS. i The Chaibman read a proclamation appearing m the Gazette empowering the , Board to inflict penalt'es m cases of overloading drays of two or four wheels, having tires of lessithan 5 inches. • He observed that it rested with the Board to fix the amount of-penalty for loads carried on such wheels m ""excess of what the law allowed, which was 20 cwt. for two wheeled, and 50 cwt. for four-wheeled, drays, the minimum penalty being 1/- for each cwt/ or fractional •part of a cwt. / Mr. BAILET urged that the slightest penalty ought to be imposed. The. Chaibman dissented from this opihiori; /He-thought the only way to put a stop f o their roads being cut thorough by narrow wheeled drays with heavy loads wrs to impose a deterrent penalty . A desultory coriversatibnal discussion ensued m which the greater inj&ry done was freely adtnitted. It .was however stat?d that the cost of broad tires iv the colony exceeded the price of newly imported drays. Eventually, it was resolved— That notice be given that all vehicles baring the breadth of their wheels less than 5 inches ..shall be subject to a penalty of 1/- per cwt. oo fractional part of a cwt carried above the weight • of 25 cwt. on two wheels, or 50 cwt. on four wheels. /ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to ££r55 7s. were passed for payment. . "../.. boad bepaibs. It was resolved, on the inbtion of Mr. Bailey^-That ; the secretary write to the Manawatu Highways Board asking them to do something to the road along the railway line, 'as.it will shortly be impassable. 7 The Board then adjourned to Monday, ; 7th July, at 3 pirn; 7
