MANAWATU HIGHWAYS BOARD.
4 A meeting of the above Board was held -on Monday, the sth Nov., 1877. PRESENT. Messrs. McNeil; Fanner, McEwen, ' Hammond, McPherson. The minutes of the previous meeting, were read, and, on the motion of Mr Me Ewen seconded by Mr McPhersqn, confirmed. Engineer's Monthly Report read, and received. Treasurer's report shewed a , debtor balance of £392, 18s 9d. CORRESPONDENCE. Letter from J. T. Stewart, Esq., District Engineer, sanctioning the removal of the Bridge now across' the Awa Puni - outlet providing the Board will be responsible for another, if required at any future time. Letter from Colonial Secretary's Office, acknowledging receipt of letter, notifying the election of Warden Davies. Letter from DougUi and Co., relative
to the laying off of roads leading to the special settlement. The Secretary was instructed to write and inform them that tenders were ne w invited for a poriirn of the work, and no. time would be lost m getting tin' remainder ready for tr-r.dering. Circular from Wellington Erlurafion Board requesting that school lands and buildings might be exempt from rates. The Secretary was instructed to reply and inform the Board that no portion of school property within this district had ever been rated. Letter from £. Collins and others " owning property on the Fitzherbert side of the river, requesting the Board to do something towards making a passable road to their properties. Besolved,—^That the Engineer lay off this work and call tenders as soon as possible. Letter from Warden Dalrymple, apologising for non-attendance, and recommending that the above mentioned road receive attention at once. . Letter from Charles London and OJeorge Curreen, property owners in Eiwitea, suggesting that a road, should be cleared from the Kimboltpn road leading towards the, centre of the Xiwitea block, instead of clearing the one leading towards the south portion of block which; was applieii /for' some time ago by settlers m that locality. •■'."■ Resolved, That the Engineer visit the block and report at the next meeting. Letter from settlers on Millson's line applying for i certain improvements consisting of formation and bridges. Letters from Messrs. Gaskin and others for: v clearing on road leading to • their property m Karere district Besolved, That this matter stand over atj>resent. - ■; Letters from settlers m Motoua, offering to contribute two-thirds, of the costjof cutting an outlet, from Motoua road towards the lake.
