FEILDING.
[From our own Correspondent]. . A Benevolent Society was instituted m Feilding some twelve months ago, and although its existence was unknown to many who -are resident m this locality, ye,t the Society has been a Good Samaritan m many cases of distress. An institution of this kind has a twofold use, inasmuch as it is the means of relieving cases of real distress, and also relievingthe benevolent from being called on tcjp often to contribute to the relief of cases of less need more extensively than the needs of 1 the case require, while other cases of more deep distress might remain unrelieved for want of some one to bring it under the notice of, the benevolent public. A Benevolent Society will distribute assistance with a, more ■ even hand than the individual bene-, volent members of the community can do direct. Such are, I 1 understand, the views of those engaged m this good wort, and as the operations of the Society have not been sufficiently public since its -inauguration until now, the committee decided last Friday night that' a public meeting be. convened on Friday, the 3rd Angust, when the claims of the .Society, to public s,upport will be advocated. It is to be hoped that the ¥ "active members may meet with the support that will encourage them to persevere earnestly m carrying out their good . intentions. No one jean tell how much good a little timely assistance to a family, m .real distress may effect m saving its' members from ruin, when, perhaps, the bread-winner of the family may be temporarily- disabled by an accident or sickness,' and is without credit to tide over a short v suspension from ,work. , I understand that The ladies are interesting themselves m the objects of the Society, and as their aid will be more effectual tjian any other it is ho.ped . that its organization will, enable them to work more effectually on its behalf. . Ithas been determined to givereadings and singing by ladies and gentlemen at the Immigrants' Depot, sorne'itme next week, the proceeds to go towards the Feilding Benevolent Society.
