TO THE EDITOR. Sib,- I—ln1 — In looking over your looal columns of April 18th, I notice a paragraph m which you accuse the late meeting m the Rangitikei Line with holding personal enmity against the Inspector of the Manawatu Highways Board. That accusation I emphatically deny, as being one present at that meeting. Nowy Sirj I challenge you, or any other person^ to prove ■ that there was one word uttered. ;at that meeting that could be construed to mean personal enmity to the Board's Inspector. Now, Mf Editor* expecting an apology m your he'it issue* I ainj &c, D. D. Walkee. Palmer, ston Kdrthj April 21st. 1877; : [Our 1 correspondent has practically declared his right io criticise or censure the public, conduct of individuals; he should, therefore* grant that right to
others without imposing upon them the penalty of an apology. Did we apologise every time we ran counter to the opinion of others, our OAvn opinion might justly be taken by the public at a very low value.— Ed. M. T.]
