WANGANUI RACES.
The following summary of the several events which took place at the Wanganui Race Meeting, we copy from the " Chronicle ": — FIEST DAT. Wanganui Derby of 100 soys. — J. D. Powdrell's Queen of the Vale, Ist; S. Neary's Mainaina, 2nd ; J. W. Baker's Lucifer, 3rd. Wanganui Stakes of £60. — Messrs. C.and J. Durie's Elsa, Ist; 0. McGee's Perfume, 2nd ; Watene's Parawhenua, 3rd. Scurry Stakes of £20.— W. Handley's Flora McDonald, Ist ; Hayward's Ada, ; 2nd ; W. Wilson's Iniquity, 3rd. Plora kept last till the straight run was entered, when the rider, young Al'f. Walker, came out and won easily. Railway Plate of £30.—0. McGee's May Moon, Ist ; W. Handley's Flora McDonald, 2nd; Watene's Parawhenua, Ladies' Purse of £30.—T j yjj/(E^ Opawa, Ist ; George's Resolutid_tj-_WKI ; Brown's Te Whetu Marama, 3rd. Frowning Beauty, Tamouri, and Border Chief also started. Queen of the Vale and Fox were scratched. Betting — Level against Opawa, 2 to 1 against Resolution. A hack race, a sweep of 1 soy. each; ... terminated the first day's proceedings. Nine horses started for the event, which was won by Steel Deer. SECOND DAY. Hurdle Race of £60.— Tupea's Wairarapa, Ist ; Mcßae and Nicholson's Gazelle, 2nd ; W. Frazer's St. Albans, 3rd. Medora, Victor," Cockatoo, and Perfume started ; Satellite and Te Whetu Marama were scratched. Betting — . Level on Perfume, 4 to 1 Wairarapa and St. Albans, 8 to 10 to 1 Gazelle and Victor. Hack Hurdle Race of J £10—Harrison's Cossack, Ist ; Sweeny's Violet, 2nd ; Frazer's Straight Tip, 3rd. Wanganui Jockey Club Handicap of £200.— W. H. George's Resolution, Ist ; T. Rowe's Opawa, 2nd ; C. &J. Durie's Elsa, 3rd. Maiden Plate of £50.— Higgie's Ouida, Ist; T. V. Brown's Te Whetu Marama, 2nd ; Baker's Lucifer, 3rd. Tamouri, Cripple Kate, Reubin, and Border Chief also ran. Betting — Level on Te Whetu Marama. Consolation Stakes of £20. — Haywood's Ada, Ist ; Watene Parawhenua, 2nd ; Wilson's Iniquity, 3rd. Perfume, and Fox also started; Flora was scratched. A hack race was won by Sweeny's Violet, Henana 2nd, Coralie 3rd. Mr Morton's Annie also won a half mile flutter..
