MANAWATU HIGHWAYS BOARD.
A meeting was held on Thursday the 15th Feb., 1877. MEMBERS PRESENT. Messrs McNeil (Chairman), Fanner, McEwen, Hammond, and McPherson. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and (on the motion of Mr McEwen, seconded by Mr McPherson) confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Letter from Warden Palmerson, tendering his resignation as a member 'of the Board, which was accepted. The Secretary was instructed to notify the same to the Government. Letter from Douglas and Co., asking the Board to call tenders for completion of Millner's Line, m the Carnarvon district. Resolved, — To call tenders for the same, and accept at the next meeting. Letter from the Colonial Secretary, intimating that a map of the Otaki dis.trict had been forwarded for the use of the Board, and that the cost would be £5. *;-. Resolved, — That the Secretary reply stating that the Government did, m former times, supply the maps free, and request them to do so on this occasion. Letter from the Treasury with voucher enclosed for £264 2s lOd, being amount of subsidy to 31st Dec, 1876. Letter from J. T. Stewart, Esq., District Engineer, stating that steps had been taken to have the drain deepened towards Awapuni, as requested by the Board at a former meeting. Telegrams were read from the Chairman to H. Bunny, Esq., with replies, respecting the metalling of Karereroad. Warden McEwen moved a vote of thanks to the Chairman for the interest he had disj)layed m connection with the above-named work, which was carried unanimously. Letter from Mr Flyger, pointing out that the road contract let some time ago for work, adjoining his property, had not yet been commenced, and requesting that no more time should, be lost. Resolved, — That notice be sent to the contractor to the effect that if the work is not commenced on or before next Monday, the Board will take steps to relet it. Resolved,— That m future Mr McEwen shall assist m passing works prior to payment. Resolved, — That Mr Farmer be authorised to make arrangements for repairs to Bush Line, Sandon, also, that arrangements be made with Mr Rowlands, of Karere, for repairs to t^" portion of Jackeytown road l-eeiy metalled. Resolved, — TLatrSTr McNeil be appointed Treasurer, m place of Mr Palmerson, resigned. Resolved, — That the Government be asked to furnish each Warden with copies of the Rating, Local Elections, Financial Arrangements, and Public Works Acts, 1876. TENDERS OPENED. Motoa Road, . Sanding Contract, — Edwards, £34 10s, accepted ; Barry, at per chain, £2 ss, declined ; Gotty and Co., do. do. do., £2 4s, do. ; Birchley, do. do. do., £2 16s 6d, do. ; Symons, do. do. do., £2, do. Outlet to Motoa Lake, — Evans and Morris, £62 14s 6d, accepted ; Leonard, £97, declined ; Barry, informal ; Wilson and Co., at per chain, 18s 6d, culvert, £8 15s, declined ; McGivern, do. do. do., 18s 4d, culvert, £14, do. ; Gotty and Co., do. do. do., 19s 6d, culvert, £11 10s, do. ; Bowe and Co., £90, do. Wilson's Line, Sandon, — No satisfactory tender was received. Fresh tenders to be invited for next meeting. Fascining Typo Bush Line, — H. Philps, at per chain, £1 12s, accepted ; P. Kane, do. do. do., £1 12s 6d, declined ; Leonard, do. do. do., £3 10s, do. ; Wylds, do. do. do., £3 4s 6d, do. Metalling Penny's Line, — Wylds, at per chain, £6 6s 6d, accepted. McKeown's Line, Bush-fellyig, — McKeown, at per chain, 3s 3d, accepted ; Petersen, do. do. do., 3s lOd, declined ; Schadt, do. do. do., 5s 6d, do. ; Bergurist, do. do. do., 3s lid, do. Tenders are to be invited for the following works, and to be opened at the next Board meeting : — For continuation of Millner's line, Carnarvon ; flax clearing, about 106 chains on No. 4 Line, Foxton ; metalling a portion of Lee's line, Sandon ; metalling a portion of Cemetery line, Sandon ; Cutting and forming road line near Palmerston ; forming 20 chains Karere road ; and forming and culvert on Jackeytown road. The Board then adjourned until Thursday, the 15th March, at 10 a.m.
