WELLINGTON.
February 10. H. Curry, a Government messenger, was seriously injured yesterday m the hydraulic lift at the new Government Buildings. While , ascending he got jammed between the woodwork and the floor of the third storey. He was extricated with difficulty, his left thigh being broken, and his right leg seriously injured. He was taken to the Hospital, where his leg was set, and is progressing favourably to-day. , ■ -Tuesday. Mr Edward Fearce, M.H31., for the City has resigned, and leaves for England by the March mail. .••'.. . The following are the principal amounts won at the recent race meeting, and paid over since:— Tiedwood, £375; Kay, £237; Gilligan,£l4o; Durie, £100; Walker, £100 ; Brown, £80 ; Fraser, £70 ; the total amount paid was ' £1,147. It was agreed that the amount of next year's Cup money should be £500. There were 25 and 22 nominations received respectively for the Wellington, Derbies of 1878 and 1879.
