FUNCTIONS REDUCED
FRENCH SECRET SERVICE
(Rec. 12.30 p.m.) PARIS, Dec. 30. General do Gaulle's Secret Service D.G.E.R. (Direction General des Etudes et Renseignements), which Left Wing quarters criticise as being undemocratic, will have its functions reduced and the name changed from today. Reuter's correspondent says it will operate in future only outside French territory and will be known as S-D.E.C.E. (Service de Docimentation Exterieur et de Contresspionpge). Instead of being under the authority of General de Gaulle it will be controlled by an inter-Ministerial committee of 12 in which General -de Gaulle is included.
