At the final meeting for the year of the Palmerston North Society lor the Prevention of Cruelty ,to Animals, the chairman (Mr W. A. Jacques) briefly reviewed the society’s activities for the year just closing at the same time giving some indication of the wider scope the society’s work will encompass during the coming year. Along with other correspondence received the secretary read an interesting document from the Scottish Society which embodied that organisation’s 105th annual report and balance-sheet. The vieiv was expressed tiiat New Zealand legislation governing cruelty to animals was lacking in certain respects, and a move to have measures passed in this country along the lines of English legislation was approved. The inspector (Mr R. H. James) presented his report, a feature being the assistance given to* residents in connection with injured or otherwise ailing animals. The chairman expressed his gratification with the number of donations received in approval of 1 services thus rendered. The inspector was instructed to extend his supervision of sales and other congregations of stock within the local society’s territory. In closing the chairman extended sympathy to members of the executive who had lately been ill, at the same time conveying seasonal greetings to all.
