50,000 DOLLARS FOR TALKING
NEW YORK, Dec. 6. John J. Brophy, a New Jersey taxidriver, has received the biggest tip ever—so,ooo dollars. It was given by one of his regular customers, Mr E. L. Rupprecht, an executive of the vast E. L. Dupont de fjemours Company, because Brophy helped him "escape the boredom of talk about business, concerts, and the opera." Mr Rupprecht, who died recently, used a taxi driven by Brophy at least twice a day, and frequently called in to see Brophy and talk about his "real interests" —football, boxing, and baseball. His will disclosed one-eighth of the estate had been left to Brophy, who was discharged from the Army last year.
