MURDERS AT WAKE ISLAND

JAPANESE SENTENCED. LONDON, Dec. 26, A former Japanese commander t>n Wake Island, Rear-Admiral Sakahara, has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of 98 civilians, all employees of Pan-American Airways, on the island in October, 1943. The Admiral's executive officer, Lieut.-Commander Tachbana, \fao was also sentenced to be hanged, told the Court before the sentence was read: "The people who planned and carried out the dropping of atomic bombs on Japan, should also be regarded as war criminals, the same as us."
