TERRACE END REQUEST. Mr E. F. Hemingway presided at the monthly meeting of the Wanganw Education Board, yesterday, and southern district members present were Messrs L- J. Carmine, 1. W. Mudford and W. 11. Tennent. of absence was granted Mr Bro'wn. A request that a partition be placed in the Terrace End School building, so that two extra classrooms would be provided, was received from the committee. There would be a need for the classrooms next year, as with staff increases there would be more, and smaller, classes. The board's architect (Mr E. R. Hodge) reported that the cost would be about £BO. lbe board gave its permission to carry out the necessary alterations. ;'i Mr Hodge also reported that work on the new dental clinic at the Palmerston North Intermediate School was .proceeding. He expressed the hope that the 'building would be ready for occupation at the beginning of next year. The construction of a swimming pool at the Whakarongo School would be commenced almost immediately, the architect continued. The contractor who built the baths at the Bunnythorpe School had been secured to construct a similar pool at Whakarongo. Mr Boulton reported that teaching had been removed from classification as an essential undertaking under manpower control as from December G of this year. . The Education Department advised that Mr D- G. Ball would now be unable to take up his duties as senior inspector and that arrangements were being made to fill the position permanently. • An application by the Terraco End Committee to divert the Kelvin Grove bus via Bunnythorpe Road and Robert's Line was approved. The Bainesse committee is to be advised that consolidation on Rangiotu is not possible yet. The Rongotea committee wrote suggesting the conveyance of certain children to Rongotea from the Waitohi district, to obviate building a new classroom at the Waitohi School. A reply is to be sent that nothing can be done unless the Waitohi parents agree to consolidation. The resignation of Mr H. L. Goble as janitor of the Palmerston North manual training centre was received and the appointment of Mr T. H. Ward to the vacancy was approved. The department advised a grant of £74 for the purpose of conveying pupils to swimming instruction nextyear and the board will allocate the "money to country schools. The department also notified that, on application by the board, a grant would be made available for equipping Primer 1 rooms in school in Grades V and VI, the grants to be at the rae of £ls per room. The secretary reported that the department had paid a grant of £lO5 for the 1945-40 year for agricultural clubs. The agricultural instructor (Mr E. H. Lange) recommended an allocation of £55 to the Wanganui and Main Trunk Club and £SO to the Manawatu-Orouu Club and this was approved. An application by the Palmerston North Intermediate School Committee for the use of a portion oi the school section for a vegetable garden,, in return for a supply of vegetables to the school flat was approved. The Manawatu and Districts Christian Endeavour Union was granted the (we of the Bunnythorpe School for an Easter camp next year.
