PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE
The monthly meeting of the M.anawatn Women’s Patriotio Committee was held recently. Those present were Mrs A. E- Hansford (in the chair), Mesdames E. C. Barnett, M. P. Sorensen, K. S. Manning, S. J. Parkes and G. b. Petersen (hon. secretary-treasur-er). • For the Shop Committee Mrs Barnett reported that the total receipts for October were £482 8s lid. This brings the total receipts to £23,650 Is 7d, with an expenses account of £364 4s 81 d. The committee agreed to sell health stumps on November 29 and 30. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the Shop Committee on the second Monday in February. Knitting and llussifs Branch.—Mrs Manning reported that the . following articles wore sent to Wellington during Octobor: Six navy polo-necked jerseys, 4 longsleeved jerseys, 7 sleeveless, pullovers, 27 balaclavas, 22 pairs socks, 1 pair footless socks, 4 pairs mittens, 6 scarves, 14 polonocked scarves, 1 pair gloves, 163 hussifs— H total of 255 articles. The committee asked that their members be on duty only >n the afternoons for the remainder of the year. The executive endorsed the action of the branch in closing its rooms in the mornings, and gave the committee authority to return part of their stock of khaki wool fo Wellington. Lady Galway Guild.—Mrs Sorenson reported that the rooms kindly, placed ( at the disposal of the guild by Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame, Ltd., for. tho duration of tho war had been closed. The committee would discuss the carrying on of the wo»k at the next meeting in February. Cases of clothing had been packed ready for dispatch overseas and a large parcel of baby clothing was dispatched to Cromwell House, London. Mrs Petersen thanked all for their loyalty and faithful service over the past five and a half years. Parcels Branch. —Tho secretary reported that Mrs Northey had been granted three months’ leave of absence for health reasons. Arrangements were made for servicing the A.N.A. Club canteen on December 8 and 9.
A.N.A. House .Committee (Mrs Parkes,. --Danco Committee: Misa Giillies stated that the receipts in September were £l2l 8s 7d with an expenditure of £lO9 3s Id. The final night for this club had been an outstanding success. Decoration Committee: Mrs Stubbs thanked all donprs of flower's for the Victory Ball. Canteen Committee: 135 teas and 30 suppers were served during September. The organisations servicing the club for the month were Business Girls’ Club. Townswomen’s Guild, Croquet Association, and Cuba Street Ladies’ Guild. Mrs Parkes was appointed- convener of the A.N.A. House Committee while servicing the patriotic shop. Hospitality Committee. —This committee reported having provided hospitality for the family of a soldier who were unable to find accommodation in the city. Mrs Symons deported that she had visited soldiers in the Hospital. Mrs Mansford announced that the executive would not meet again until February, and extended to all present the season’s greetings.
