EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” NOVEMBER 23, 1915.
A London cablegram stated that tho Foreign Office had denied the seizure of Greek ships or any blockade of Greek ports. The casualties in the Dardanelles fighting to October 23 were: —'Territorials : 1050 officers, 22,355 other ranks; Regulars, 1900 officers, 37,488 oilier ranks; Australians, 1002 officers, 23,561 other ranks; New Zealanders, 317 officers, 6569 other ranks. At the Ashhurst-Pohangina Club’s meeting the Ashhurst Cup, of £l3O, one and a quarter miles, had boon won by Mr W. 11. Bowden’s His Eminence (Carmont) with Mr P. E. Duigan’s Bunting (R. Reed) second, and Mr G. Hunter’s Sicily (Loddcr) third. Tho Allies wcuc reported to have begun a great offensive in tho Dardanelles, stated a Constantinople message. The first Gorman contingent bad arrived in Turkey and General von Mackensen was reported to bo ir, command.
