GRATITUDE FOR VICTORY

METHODIST RESOLUTION

At the Hawke’s Bay-Manawatu Synod of the Methodist Church, held at Hastings, the following resolution was carried:— “The representatives, ministerial and lay, of the Hawke’s Bay-Mana-watu Methodist Synod, desire to express, and request the forthcoming conference to place on record,' profound thankfulness to Almighty God, not merely for the cessation of hostilities hut for the complete and overwhelming defeat of the Axis Powers, whose pitiless and aggressive militarism if crowned with success would, we believe, not only have resulted in the enslavement of our people hut also in the destruction of the best elements in our Christian civilisation. We give thanks to the God of our Fathers for the spirit of Britain and its expression during the ordeal of war in the supreme courage and deathless devotion of, the men of tlie Fighting Forces, and in the steadfast devotion to duty on the part of all classes. For inspired industry and for a King who reigned in righteousness we record our gratitude. We, earnestly pray that a new and better order, broad-based on justice and righteousness, may speedily banish suspicion and distrust, and that a growing international understanding and goodwill may bring to mankind the unspeakable blessing of enduring peace.’ 3
