RETURNED SERVICES
CHRISTMAS GIFTS TO CHIDREN. A decision was made at a meetmeeting. of the management committee of the Palmerston Nortli branch of the Returned Services Association that the plan of giving the children of returned soldiers and war widows a Christmas present be again repeated this year. The arrangements are nearly complete. The town will be divided into five equal areas for the delivery of the gifts and maps have been drawn up tor the guidance of members who will be undertaking the work. The presents are purchased from a voluntary subscription fund among members of the association. Gifts were given to about 400 children last Christmas, but indications go to show that the number this year will be nearer 600.
Membership of the branch' had reached a record, it was reported, and there are now about 1800 members. There had been 113 new members enrolled during the past month, of whom all but three were of the Second N.Z.E.F. Of the three exceptions two had been members of the Australian Expeditionary Force and one of the British Army. ' ■ \ ‘ . ;.;V : - . ■
