CHURCH DISPUTE
SELECTION OF VICAR. (Press Assn.) HAMILTON, Oct. 1. .Dissatisfaction with a system of church government that denied the parishioner of a parochial district the right to be consulted in the choice of a vicar was expressed at a special meeting of St. Aiclan s vestry. Claudelands, last night, when it was reported that a clergyman of whom the vestry did not approve had been appointed to succeed Rev. Canon G. A. Crossman, who retires today.
The vestry unanimously passed a resolution disapproving of the appointment made by the Board of Nomination and deciding not to pay the stipend, to deny.-the appointee the use of the vicarage, not to hand him the keys of the church, and not to take any part in the induction ceremony. The vestry approved of a petition being presenteu to the Board of Nomination asking that the cure be offered to a, clergyman from the Wellington Diocese, whom it had nominated, and reminding *>he board that St. Aidan's was established for the purpose of providing a place of worship for those members of the Church of England who favoured the Evangelistic school of thought as opposed to the AngloCatholic school.
