RUGBY FOOTBALL
SERVICES OUTPLAYED. (Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, ' Sept. 30. Before some 15,000 spectators the New Zealand team outplayed Combined Services by 29—13 at Athletic Park yesterday. The conditions were ideal, but it vvas soon, apparent that the packs of both si bs were badly balanced. The result was the worst exhibition of scrummaging evnr soon in an important match in Wellington. In the early stages some of the tall fyont row Services men were so slow in getting down that they were frequently left helplessly standing up, and the same thing occasionally happened to the front row men on the New Zealand side. The ball had to be put in two and three times before the referee was satisfied and when it did go in as often as not a penalty followed. Occasionally _ the scrums screwed round at right ang:es to the touch line and not infrequently both packs fell sprawling. Tries for the winners were scored by Grace, Dunn, Barnes (2), McHugh and Morrison, Callinan converted three and Morrison one-, and Morrison also kicked a penalty goal. For Services Puke scored a try, King kicked a field goal, and Wishnowsky scored from two penalty kicks. At Christchurch. Wellington beat Canterbury 23—6.
